I went to the doctor’s office yesterday for my 6 weeks post-op check-up. The bone is healing really well. When I went at 2 weeks, there was a noticeable gap where the bone was broken. Now it is just like a line drawn on the bone. I’m not completely off crutches, but I can now put weight on my leg. Dr. Gueramy said to get a bathroom scale and push on it with just my right leg until I got up to 50 pounds. That’s how much weight I can put on that leg. I had gotten to where I could zip along pretty fast for a gimp, but now I’m trying so hard to concentrate and not put too much weight that I’m back to being a slow poke. Putting weight on my leg will allow the bone to compress and finish the healing process. It’s kinda neat. I found out that the screw through the bone and titanium rod (it’s called a nail in medical talk) up by hip has a large hole, so the screw can slide up and down in this “pocket” as I put weight on my leg. Pretty cool. I go back in another 2 weeks and hopefully then I can get off crutches for good.
