Tuesday, Jessica turned 22 months old. This might be the last monthly post I do for her. I’ll probably only do milestones from here on out. I’m not even going to share many photos in this post. I’ve done scrapbook layouts of many of the photos I would post and so I will just refer you to those posts: Mommy’s Little Helper, Budding Artist, and Zoom Zoom.
What Jessica is Up To
Jessica is a very independent child. She can play by herself quite well, but she also enjoys playing with me, who she calls Mommy, or her Daddy. She likes to do things herself and then gets frustrated when she isn’t quite capable. For instance, we currently have the Mini Babybel cheese rounds as a snack and she wants to open the package and take the cheese out of the red wax coating herself, but she can’t quite do that yet. I have to let her have a go at it and then ask if she would like help before she will let me help her pull the red wax wings so she can take it out herself.
Her favorite play activities seem to be books and diapering various stuff animals, mostly her two Curious Georges and stuffed kitty. She also enjoys her two puzzles and knows where each of the animal pieces go. She definitely is into pretend play. She will pretend to feed any stuffed animal she happens to carry into the kitchen for snack time. This includes the little cars that have characters, such as Cookie Monster or a cow, stuck out of them. When she plays diapering, she will take a wipe and wipe the poopy from the stuffed animal too. The door to the nursery where the changing table, wipes and diapers are stored is kept closed, because otherwise I would have wipes and diapers all through-out the house.
Jessica still loves watching Curious George, but more recently will ask for Train (Dinosaur Train) or Street/Elmo/Abby (Sesame Street) in addition to George. She knows a lot of the Sesame Street muppets by name. This video shows her pointing out and naming a number of the characters. Yes, she is standing quite close to the TV, but during the singing parts of the show, Jessica likes to get up and boogie or more often stand and sing during those parts.
What Jessica is Saying
I’m not going to list out single words any more, because there are just too many words she knows. Jessica is great at mimicry and if James or I say a word, she will repeat it. This can be a bad thing, so I need to really watch what I say. One day, we were watching Sesame Street before my OB appointment. I happened to doze off and when I awoke, it was 10 minutes to my appointment time. Now, my OB happens to be really close, probably a 5-minute drive, but still that was pushing it. I started up and said “oh shoot” and Jessica repeated it right after me. She still uses a lot of single words, but she is using two or three-word phrases more and more.
Manners: She is very good at saying thank you. She will say please and your welcome, but they don’t come as easily to her. Jessica also says bless you when people near her sneeze.
Counting: Jessica can count 1-5, but still likes 1 and 2 the best.
Animals & Their Noises: She knows so many animals and so many of their sounds. It is so cool.
What Jessica is Eating
Jessica is still the pickiest eater ever. Right now is particularly bad as she is getting all four of her canines in at once it seems. At times, she barely eats.
She looks like she is ready to work at Nanny’s office with your purse.
Jessica is a smart girl. Enjoyed her naming all of the characters on Sesame Street.
