I Am Silly

Posted on April 1, 2019 by Jennifer

Life can be so serious. Sometimes you just have to cut loose and be a little ridiculous. Scraps N Pieces’ latest kit I Am Silly celebrates those little moments with the big giggle factor that makes life more fun! The playful color palette feels like a good laugh – bright poppy oranges and yellows, cool blues, and some greens to help keep you on your toes. The elements are perfectly versatile, encompassing banners, ribbons, flowers, ephemera, and silly giraffes guarantees to elicit a chuckle. The coordinating papers are playfully patterned, the alpha is a little bit off-kilter, and the word art is perfect for reminding you to indulge in a little silliness. So break out of the day-to-day doldrums and get your fun on with I Am Silly. Previews are linked to purchase the items in this kit for 50% off for the first 5 days of release.

The giraffes in this kit are just too cute, so I knew I wanted to use as many as I could. This first layout documents Janette feeding the giraffes at the Albuquerque Zoo in August 2017. Check out that long tongue.

Splashin’ Fun

Posted on November 22, 2018 by Jennifer

My oh My! SPLASHIN’ FUN by Magical Scraps Galore is a whimsical collection inspired by the most fun theme park ride! This collection is full of amazing goodies, such as the funny Brer characters, the blue bird, a chuckling vulture, a log, water splashes, the briar patch, iconic ride signage, a bindle and a beehive, among many other fabulous themed elements and patterns.

Find the full collection at 58% off -or the individual kit and add-ons at 30% off– through November 29th  exclusively at GingerScraps.

This kit is so cute. We didn’t ride Splash Mountain when we visited WDW in 2014, so I went way back for this first layout. I scanned my ride photo from when we visited when I was in 8th grade.

For my second layout, I decided to show the versatility of the kit. These pictures are from last spring. The girls’ school has some great bluebonnets in the spring.

Camelot

Posted on August 10, 2018 by Jennifer

Stories of the days of olde and days of legend blur together, creating a history that is part fantastic feats and part pure fantasy. If you love fairy tales, Renaissance faires, or just knights in shining armor, you will love scrapping with Camelot by Scraps N Pieces. This richly-colored kit provides the perfect tapestry on which to scrap. Bold patterned papers, waving pennants, and stone castle elements provide the perfect backdrop, while swords, armor, dragons, and heraldic crests accentuate your photos. Faded book-print cardstock and yellowing letters round out this kit perfectly. So embark onto your quest – whether it be for bedtime stories or eternal glory – and create the perfect layout with Camelot.

Grab this kit during the first week of release for half price.  Preview is linked to Gingerscraps and the link to MyMemories is HERE.

I have two layouts to share today. I immediately thought of The Sword in the Stone when I saw this kit and knew I had the perfect pics. Scrapping these Disney World pics bring back the memories.

I wasn’t sure what else to scrap, so I browsed heritage photos I have scrapped and came across these of me as a little tyke. I thought the colors of the kit went quite well with my shorts. My Grandma, a scrapbooker from before that was a thing, would appreciate it, I think.

I have two layouts to share from our visit to Sante Fe last year. Journaling spread over both pages reads:

The Sisters of Loretto responded to a plea to open a school for girls. It opened in 1853. By 1873, the Sisters were able to start the construction of a Chapel. Using the same French architect and builders as Saint Francis Cathedral Basilica, the Chapel of Our Lady of Light (as it was then known) was patterned after Archbishop Lamy’s favorite Sainte Chapelle in Paris. Unfortunately, the architect died before access to the choir loft was built. Given the height of the loft and the small size of the Chapel, a staircase would have taken up too much floor space, thereby reducing the seating capacity to an unacceptably small level. Legend states that seeking guidance and help, the Sisters of Loretto prayed a nine day novena to St. Joseph, Patron Saint of Carpenters.

On the final day of the novena, a carpenter appeared with only a hammer and carpenter’s square.  He built what is now known as the Miraculous Staircase with simple tools and wooden pegs.  When the Staircase was complete, it is said that the carpenter disappeared without receiving thanks or payment.  Some believe the carpenter was St. Joseph himself while others believe that is was someone sent by St. Joseph.  What is known is that the Sisters of Loretto prayed, and their prayers were answered. The Staircase has two complete 360 degree turns with no center pole for structural support.  The entire weight of the staircase rests on the bottom stair. The banisters were added approximately ten years later due to the difficulty of climbing the tall, tapered stairs with no railing.

100 of My Favorites Vol. 7

Posted on June 3, 2018 by Jennifer

I’m pretty excited that Jennifer is back to designing word art after taking some time off to spend time with her family. Here’s one of her new word art packs, 100 of My Favorites Vol 7.

With the school year wrapping up, my eye was immediately drawn to the teacher word art. Now I finished this layout before I got end of year pictures this year, so I chose this photo of Jessica and her teacher Mrs. Calabrese last year. Mrs. Calabrese retired this year. Jessica told me that there was a group photo taken of all the kids who had Mrs. Calabrese (who were still at Baranoff) as part of her retirement send-off.
