Turkey Day

Today is release day for a new scrapping digi-kit by Amy’s Designs. It is called Turkey Day. Don’t you just love the little pilgrims and Indians?

I have two layouts to share using this kit. I decided to use pictures from last year’s Thanksgiving celebration at our friends Aric and Kristy’s house. The first layout I finished showcases Aric’s turkey frying. I really like how my blocked layout turned out.

The second layout will actually be the first layout when I get the layouts printed and put in a scrapbook album. I had started a second page to coordinate, but JAM4 decided to arrive early and I didn’t finish it.

Here is a layout I completed for two challenges. The first challenge was the Scrapbookbytes.com October Quote Challenge to use a quote about relationships. I really liked this quote by Desmond Tutu: “You don’t choose your family.  They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.” The second challenge was the Scraps-N-Pieces October recipe challenge that required me to use journaling, a fastener (staple, brad, etc), a frame, at least 6 papers, and stitching. The hardest part of this challenge was the use of 6 papers. The pictures are from the Dzubinski family trip this past summer, both are thanks to my sister.

Canadian Rocky Layouts – 6/18/10

Today, I’m sharing five more layouts that will go in the album I’m making for my parents about their Canadian Rocky trip. I’m trying to finish it up before the baby arrives. All of these layouts are from the first day of their journey on the Rocky Mountaineer.

Journaling reads: “Friday, June 18, 2010 Our bus picks us up at the hotel and delivers us and several other people to the train station, where we board the Rocky Mountaineer for our trip to Kamloops. The train leaves Vancouver and travels east along the Fraser River.”

I ended up liking how the sketch worked so much, that I made a coordinating second page by just changing the photo blocking and removing the title. Journaling reads: “After arriving in Kamloops, we walk around downtown before eating dinner on the patio at Frick & Frack, a Canadian restaurant similar to Chili’s. We retire to our hotel, just a couple of blocks from the train station and Fraser River.”

Amy’s Kitchen

First up, I made a layout of a recent baking session with Jessica. It uses the Scrapbookbytes.com October Sketch 1. Journaling reads: “August 11, 2011 Jessica enjoyed helping bake cookies, Mint Chocolate Delights, a recipe on the bag of dark chocolate and mint baking morsels. It is definitely messier baking with a toddler, but the experience is so worth it.”

Curious George Birthday – Party Favors

When I first started thinking about Jessica’s 2nd birthday party, I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the party favors, a Curious George t-shirt personalized for each of the twelve kiddos invited to the party. Here is our nephew Dawson modeling the finished product.

Like the the invitations, the party favors required a bit of graphics editing. They started with a desktop wallpaper of Curious George that I was able to download off as bonus material from a Curious George DVD that we own. I then removed the background, but unlike the invitation images, I didn’t have to be as particular about the smoothness of the image since I would be cutting it out anyway. Using my digital scrapbooking software, I set up the curved “Curious” and kids’ names as well as the George image to maximize space on the dark material heat transfer paper I picked up at Staples, which seemed to have the best price of the all the nearby office supply stores. My friend Lori was then nice enough to let me print the seven pages of transfer paper on her inkjet printer. This is one instance that it would be nice to still own an inkjet printer.

I then purchased red and blue t-shirts from Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. For future reference, Michael’s does not seem to carry any sizes smaller than youth small, but Hobby Lobby does carry youth x-small, hence why I shopped at two stores as I needed eight youth x-small shirts. After cutting out all the transfer pieces, I ironed them on the shirts and viola, awesome party favors that I got most of the kiddos to put on once they arrived at the party. I also sent the kiddos home from the party with a balloon that did double duty as a party decoration and Curious George temporary tattoos.
