Cowboy in Training

Posted on December 7, 2010 by Jennifer

Welcome to another round of Texas Tuesday, for Texas inspired crafty goodness on the first and third Tuesdays of every month. I think a number of the posse are making Texas themed Christmas cards, but I decided to go a different route today. I used Mojo Monday Sketch 168 to make it, so since the sketch was revealed yesterday, you know I didn’t plan very far ahead for today’s post.

Wii and Quoits

Posted on December 4, 2010 by Jennifer

The Saturday before Thanksgiving, our friends Ranger and Clarisse hosted a “Wii Would Like to Play” party. We showed up a little late since it started during Jessica’s naptime. We arrived just as the quoit action was about to start in the backyard. I had never heard of quoits before, but it is a game somewhat like horeshoes that is prevalent in New Jersey where Clarisse and her brother Eric grew up. A quoit is the heavy metal ring you toss. Lori and I were the only adults who didn’t toss a quoit. Lori was the scorekeeper and I was the Jessica wrangler.

The first match was between Team 609rz, which consisted of Justin and Eric, and Team Dirty Jersey, which consisted of Clarisse and Phap. Even though Clarisse has played before, Phap and her got whooped 21 to 4.

The second match was between Team Gibbletz, which consisted of Ranger’s sister Linette and her husband Mike, and Team Lamb Chopz, which consisted of James and Ranger.  I’m not sure where the teams came up with their names. I’m guessing you can tell the outcome of that match based on their team photo, although it was a much closer match at 21 to 18.

Apparently the Lam genes bring out the seriousness when tossing the quoit.

The final match was a showdown between the two winning teams. It actually got kinda exciting. Team 609rz beat Team Gibbletz 21 to 14.

During all the quoit action, Jessica enjoyed a cookie and enjoyed dragging her sippy cup as she crawled around on the ground.

"Yummy!"

"I'm having fun getting dirty."

We then took the competitive action inside for some Wii sports. I love the sword dueling, even if I’m not the best.

Did you notice Lori, Linette and Mike smiling at the camera in the background?

While we dueled to exhaustion, Jessica explored the diaper bag by taking every single item out of the section I had left unzipped.

She also enjoyed playing/crawling all over Linette. Jessica really took a liking to Linette.

Overall, the party was a ton of fun. Hopefully, we can do something like that again soon.

Another Christmas Tag

Posted on December 2, 2010 by Jennifer

This tag is for my youngest nephew, Trevor. It meets the requirements of this week’s Our Creative Corner Challenge to make a tag. It also meets the requirements of Prairie Fairy Friday Challenge #40 to use buttons and bows. Although, I’m not completely sure of the time cut-off on the Prairie Fairy challenge. And it meets the requirements of the Diecut Dreams Christmas Club Challenge #45 to use a die cut. This time instead of hand-writing the name and year, I ran it through the printer and I have to say, I prefer the more professional look of printed type. I really like how it turned out, even if I wish I had only used the border punch on the potion of the top piece that overlays the image panel.

Trevor's Christmas Tag

Like the last tag I shared, I used liquid applique and glitter to give sparkle to the tag. Be prepared, there might be a lot of liquid applique used on my Christmas tags.

A Christmas Tag

Posted on November 30, 2010 by Jennifer

Since I decided not to hand make Christmas cards this year (don’t worry, I’m sending out a picture card instead), I thought I would make handmade Christmas tags. At least, I plan to make them for all the kiddos. I’m going to put 2010 and their name on the tag, and I thought it would make a good embellishment for a quick Christmas layout after the gift is opened. This first tag is for my nephew Dawson, the oldest of my nieces and nephews. Since I used a C.C. Designs image, it meets the requirements for the All That Scraps Weekly Wednesday Challenge #55 to make a tag.

And here’s a close-up of all the sparkle.

Now to wrap his gifts so I can attach the tag.

An Imaginisce Birthday Layout

Posted on November 22, 2010 by Jennifer

I picked up the Imaginisce B-Day Bash paper pack and coordinating embellishments at the scrapbooking convention I went to with Kristy in September. I thought it would work great with all the kids’ birthday parties. So I ordered some prints from my niece’s first birthday party from ScrapbookPictures.com, a new photo site I tried out for a digital scrapbook project I am working on.  I had wanted to play along with Imaginisce’s monthly sketch in October with these pictures, but I ended up being too busy getting ready for Jessica’s first birthday party. I think this November sketch worked better with the pictures though, so I’m kinda glad I didn’t have time. What do you think of my take on the sketch?

Imaginisce November Sketch

My Take on the Imaginisce November Sketch

I decided to do a coordinating second page for the rest of the pictures I deemed scrapbook worthy. And then I wondered where there was room for the journaling. You might look at this page and wonder “I don’t see any journaling.” Well, I’m sneaky like that. That little red rectangle with the present hides the journaling that will pop out like a jack-in-the-box. That space wasn’t big enough for all I wanted to say (thank you blog post on said party for providing what to say) and so I got creative. What do you think?
