Happy 30th Birthday Sarah!

Posted on February 5, 2012 by Jennifer

My sister turned 30 yesterday on February 4th. Sarah and I have that special bond that only sisters can have. Sometimes I feel like she is the older sister, maybe because she had kids before I did and I often ask for her advice regarding children. Although growing up, I was definitely the bossy older sister. Sarah, I hope you enjoy this card I made you.

I used The Sweet Stop Sketch #143.

Happy Birthday Pawpaw

Posted on January 30, 2012 by Jennifer

Yesterday, was James’ grandfather’s 90th birthday. I hope I live that long. I wanted to make him a special card that had 90 on it somewhere. I used the January Sketch for You to Try. I was very inspired by this card using the sketch.

Pawpaw's 90th Birthday Card

Stamps: The Cat’s Pajamas Smells Like Cake, You Say It’s Your Birthday
Cardstock: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Old Olive, Sahara Sand, Basic Black
Designer Paper: Stampin’ Up Sweet Pea
Ink: Stazon Jet Black
Embellishments: twine; Stampin’ Up button
Tools: Stampin’ Up scallop trim border punch, small oval punch; Spellbinders small and classic circle nesties

I actually made this card yesterday when I went stamping at my friend Lori’s, so it won’t arrive in Pawpaw’s mailbox until at least tomorrow. This means it will be late, but we’ll just say I’m prolonging his celebration.

Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day!

Curious George Birthday – Party Outfit

Posted on November 11, 2011 by Jennifer

This year, I decided I would sew Jessica’s birthday outfit myself. I did a bunch of web browsing for ideas and decided I wanted to make pants out of a Curious George fabric and a solid top with a Curious George applique. I spent quite a bit of time searching for Curious George fabric that was cotton. It seemed that all the options I found were flannel, which is more suited for pajamas, but I finally found some. The applique didn’t require quite as much searching. I ended up purchasing it from The Sew Princess. Technically, she doesn’t list just the appliques in her store, but she had the best George applique on her custom outfits and I asked if she would sell just the applique and she worked with me.

Since I had never sewn a garment before, I decided to test out my skills using a green floral fabric. It went much smoother than I anticipated, even with adding sleeves to the sleeveless pattern I decided to use. Thanks to my MIL Olivia for explaining how to read/follow a pattern and to Jillan for sleeve help. I had intended to have Jessica wear the green outfit so I could ensure I had proper sizing, but Jessica can be quite adamant when it comes to clothing and I could never get her to wear it. I went ahead with the party outfit and it did end up being too large, but better too big than too small. I ended up running out of time on the shirt, so Jessica just wore the pants with her party favor shirt at the party. The shirt gave me a lot of frustration. I don’t know if it was the fabric or what, but I ended up having to rip out the stitches for gathering the sleeves like three times on each sleeve. It was quite annoying. I did end up finishing it in time for Jessica’s two year portraits taken the Monday after her party. Overall, I was quite happy with how it turned out and I’ve already started my next sewing project.

World Card Making Day

Posted on October 1, 2011 by Jennifer

Happy World Card Making Day! Did you make a card today? I did and hopefully I’ll make another one later tonight as I need to come up with one for the Lonestar Shoebox Swap I’m doing with my friend Lori next Saturday.

This card is for my dear friend Kristy. Her birthday isn’t until next Saturday, but we celebrated at dinner tonight. I used the sketch for Just Us Girls Challenge #104. And actually because I liked the sketch so much and the blossom I made ended up being so big, this card is actually 5.5×8.5 instead of the traditional A2 or 4.25×5.5 card. I used dimensionals under the center of each petal to make it three dimensional.

Kristy's Birthday Card

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Build a Blossom, On Your Birthday
Cardstock: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black
Patterned Paper: Stampin’ Up Sweet Pea
Ink: Stampin’ Up Real Red; Stazon Jet Black
Embellishments: Stampin’ Up 5/8-in black grosgrain ribbon; The Twinery Maraschino twine; Papertrey Ink Holiday Mix Vintage button
Tools: Stampin’ Up blossoms petals punch, scallop border punch, eyelet border punch

Have a fabulous day!

Aspen’s Birthday Party

Posted on August 7, 2011 by Jennifer

Friday was my sweet niece Aspen’s second birthday. Yesterday, she had a party at her house. My brother grilled burgers and dogs. They had their inflatable pool set up for all the kiddos to play in. Everyone had a great time.

I didn’t take very many pictures of adults, but I did get this great shot of the proud parents.

Proud Parents, Julia and Jason

Aspen was not sure about what she was supposed to do with the candle sitting atop her brownie. Julia and Jason tried to explain that you blow on it like it is hot.

"What am I supposed to do here?"

But alas, Aspen still just kinda looked at it weird. Jason ended up “helping” her blow it out.

"I still don't get it"

Dessert consisted of peanut butter chip brownies, homemade vanilla ice cream and an assortment of ice cream toppings. I think Jessica was more excited about the toppings she picked out (marshmallows, sprinkles and Oreos) than she was about the ice cream, but I thought it was delicious.

Afterward, a number of the kiddos hopped back in the pool. I think Jessica spent more time in the pool than anyone. She really enjoyed herself.

I think Jessica was a little confused about why Aspen’s bathtime doll was “peeing” in the pool.

Jessica Inspecting Aspen's Doll

Apparently, it is now uncouth to open gifts at the actual party. I find this sad, but I guess I will need to keep this in mind for Jessica’s party. So the party crowd had thinned to just family by the time Aspen started opening her gifts. We had a really hard time preventing Jessica from helping Aspen open her gifts. She really wanted to pull out tissue paper and tear wrapping paper.

We got Aspen a portable/collapsible crib for her dolls, some doll clothes and a book. As much as she loves her dolls, I’m sure she she will enjoy putting her dolls in the crib for a nap.
