Southern Charm, Template Pack 32, and Our Mother

In addition to Southern Charm and Template Pack 38, I also used a new word art pack, Our Mother, from Word Art World.

As soon as I saw this kit and the cotton bole, I knew I would be scrapping a photo of my grandfather, a farmer who grew cotton, as well as wheat and watermelons. I turned the inscription on the back of the photo into my title. I love that I have his handwriting on this layout.

Now I really wanted to use the new template pack, but I couldn’t think of a photo that would work with it and Southern Charm, so I chose a different Scraps N Pieces kit. I really like this photo of Jessica and I that we took during her field trip to the Austin Nature and Science Center.

Turning Wrenches

Not every special memory is clean, bright, and perfectly posed. For some people, time spent tinkering in the garage makes the best memories. On the Bayou

Life can be slow and sweet or fast and fun, depending on where in New Orleans you go. Scraps N Pieces’ latest kit, On the Bayou, celebrates the best parts of this beautiful southern city: a rich history, Cajun food, jazz music, and the bayou itself. I knew I would have to scrap some cajun inspired pictures. I decided on the Natchez steamboat cruise we took back in 2005 with my family when we visited New Orleans. I made a two page layout and will probably need to make one more to cover the afternoon excursion.

Then I decided that the template pack plus the kit would be great for a heritage layout and scrapped this neat photo of my great-great-grandparents. My friend Jan and fellow genealogist hooked me up with this picture and I cleaned it up a bit.

June Template Bundle

I’m a little behind in blogging. I have quite a few half started posts. I will try to catch up. Connie Prince’s June Template Bundle is already broken up into the individual template sets, so they’re no longer quite the deal, but they’re still fabulous template sets. I do love Connie’s templates.

I used two of the sets. The first one is In Pieces, Vol 9. You can pick it up at Gingerscraps or The Digi Chick. I think the In Pieces series makes some really fun “quilted” layouts.

I also used Busy Bees, Connie’s contribution to the Gingerscraps Buffet this month.

I decided to scrap this really neat photo of my maternal grandmother. My Mom thinks the photo was taken about 1970, so I will update the layout with a c.1970 before I have it printed.

The second set I used is White Space Vol 19. You can pick it up at Gingerscraps or The Digi Chick.

I am personally not a big white space scrapper, because they usually like to make the photos small and that is not my style. However, if you use a large photo as the background, it changes the whole concept and I love it. This layout with the New River Gorge Bridge taking center stage is a new favorite layout and surprisingly the first layout I’ve completed of our West Virginia trip back in 2011.

My Life… January
