New York New York

Posted on April 21, 2018 by Jennifer

If your heart belongs to “the city that never sleeps,” you absolutely need to get New York, New York. This kit perfectly captures the essence of New York City: bold and busy patterns that are always in motion, slightly gritty solid papers, and a shiny chrome alpha. But it’s the elements that really bring it home: Broadway, Wall Street, pizza, hot dogs, taxi cabs, the Statue of Liberty, FDNY memorabilia… It’s enough to make you put the “I <3 NY” badge on every page. Included is a pack of ‘fun fact’ tags for some of the most famous landmarks, making it easy to tell the history and still save space for telling your stories. As always, there are plenty of more traditional buttons, banners, flowers, and fasteners for mixing and matching with other kits if you don’t have a Big Apple trip on the horizon. If New York City stories are filling your to-scrap folder, make a night of it and jazz them up right with New York, New York.

Kit is 50% off at Gingerscraps and My Memories this week.

I had the perfect photos to scrap with this kit. It’s hard to believe that this trip was 20 years ago. It was so fun. This was back when I purchased quite a few postcards when I traveled. Now with digital photography, I don’t purchase post cards as much, unless I actually mail them.

Brigadoon

Posted on March 10, 2018 by Jennifer

There’s something magical about a lush, green springtime. Color and life return to the world as thought winter never happened. Brigadoon harnesses this fresh, new feeling for your scrapbooking page. This Celtic-inspired kit combines sweet spring greens, teals, rich oranges, browns, and creams for a color palette that is simultaneously otherworldly and grounded. A mixture of bold and subdued patterned papers creates the perfect background, while Celtic knot work and floral motifs set the stage. Other common motifs include ribbons, stitching, buttons, keys, and claddaghs. Whether you’re scrapping a return to springtime, St. Patrick’s Day, or your family’s heritage, Brigadoon will bring a touch of magic to your layouts

Get Brigadoon during this first week of release for 1/2 price.  Preview linked.

I have two layouts to share. This first one is about my Outlander peeps. I so enjoy my time with Lori and Emily watching Outlander.

These colors are great for masculine layouts, so this next layout is of two of my nephews.

The Sound of Music

Posted on January 12, 2018 by Jennifer

Scraps N Pieces is excited to be adding kits based on their favorite musicals this year for their week 2 releases.

Music speaks to many of us in a universal language we call can understand. Its timeless qualities bring enjoyment to generation after generation. The Sound of Music brings this timeless quality to your scrapbook pages. This vintage-inspired collaboration draws on a rich history and subdued color palette to complement modern and heirloom photos alike. Gentle creams, browns, peaches, and a pale blue snuggle cozily with faded black and metal tones to form the perfect harmony. Featured elements include musical notes and instruments galore, ephemera, sheet music, flowers and lace, and a gold wire alpha. Complementary patterned papers and two delicate templates echo this timeless feel. The Sound of Music also comes with an element pack perfectly themed to the musical of the same name. Whether you are singing about your favorite things or enjoying the sounds of a symphony, scrap your stories with The Sound of Music.

Kit is 50% off at GS and MMS this week.  Their SNP store is now closed.  The server lost everything again.

I have two layouts to share today. This first one show a great series of photos of my grandparents during a visit to New Jersey. That top photo that includes my Great-Uncle Raymond is a little blurry, but I really wanted to include it.

This next layout is of our nephew Dawson before his spring orchestra concert. I wish he was still playing the viola. He was quite talented.

National Treasure

Posted on January 3, 2018 by Jennifer

While the United States has plenty to be proud of, its history is perhaps the most remarkable of all. Many a scholar and proud American alike have found themselves waxing poetic about it… and us scrapbookers have certainly filled our bookshelves with history – both American and our own. National Treasure pays tribute to the people, places, and stories that make our national great. This kit’s bright hues of red, white, and blue are perfect for the Fourth of July, visits to Washington D.C., or hitting up historic battlefields and monuments across the country. Featured elements include the White House, Capitol Building, Washington and Lincoln Monuments, the Statue of Liberty, a cannon, a cherry blossom tree in bloom, and the American Flag. There is also a pack of important quotes, highlighting some of the history of our storied pasts. Whether you’re scrapping a story of “four score and seven years ago” or your most recent visit to the history museum, tell your most treasured stories with National Treasure.

Here is the link for the bundle at Gingerscraps.  You can get all the individual pieces also there at Gingerscraps and at MyMemories.

When I first saw this kit, I wasn’t sure what to scrap since I’ve never visited Washington, D.C. However, then I spied the Statue of Liberty and a light bulb went off. I pulled the pics from my high school band’s trip to NYC and scanned them. Unfortunately, a bunch of the roll of the pictures I took must have gotten overexposed. I cleaned them up as best as I could and felt pretty great to get four. The only one I was disappointed about was the small famiLEE group photo I was a part of. It wasn’t fixable. Thankfully, I did buy the 8×10 full group photo, so that got scanned as well.

I also wanted to use the new template pack and some of the great word art, so I chose to scrap this photo of my paternal grandfather. Ironically, he enlisted on February 7th, which also happens to be the birthday of his oldest (my Dad) and youngest children. Of course, they weren’t born until a number of years later. My Dad was nine when he got a sister for a birthday present.
