Just in case any of my blog readers haven’t heard, I’m pregnant, so in addition to the craziness of moving, the fatigue of pregnancy has kept me from posting much lately.
JAM4 is due to arrive November 13th. At the beginning of the month, I had an ultrasound. The ultrasound was measure the space at the back of the neck. Supposedly this can determine if the baby has Down Syndrome or other chromosome abnormalities. Not sure how measuring the back of the neck does that, but regardless of the results (which I get at my next appointment I think), JAM4 will be loved. These are JAM4’s first photos from that ultrasound. In the second ultrasound photo, JAM4 is waving a hand in front of his/her face, in case you can’t tell.

Yay! How exciting! One symptom of down syndrome is that the muscles in the back of the neck are weaker and the vertebrae are less stable. Just a little FYI since you were wondering 🙂

So more info: The ultrasound is called a nuchal translucency (NT) and is usually done between 12 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. It is done to measure the thickness of an area near the baby’s neck (the nuchal area). There is evidence showing a direct correlation between the nuchal thickness and the risk of having a baby affected with Down’s syndrome. The results of the NT and the blood work are combined to calculate the risk for Down’s and genetic disorders.
I didn’t know how they tested for Down’s Syndrome. Mannatech makes a product that helps kids with it. If you know of anyone that would be interested in their products Aundra,Lyle, or Jason could help them. When I had one of my leg treatments done, one of the nurses commented about my complexion and I told her what I had been using and she wanted to try it. It is a Mannatech product called Firm.
