Jessica’s First Day as a Ladybug

Posted on September 16, 2012 by Jennifer

Jessica’s first day of school was the Tuesday after Labor Day, September 4th. Abiding Love gives the classes an insect/animal name. Last year and summer she was a Honeybee. Now, she is a Ladybug. She was very excited about becoming a Ladybug. Here’s a photo of her getting ready to leave for her first day as a Ladybug.

Jessica’s First Day of School 2012

She was very excited about the new backpack she now gets to take to school.

Jessica’s Monkey Backpack

At the open house when we met her new teachers, they gave James and I a homework assignment. We had to fill out this “Getting to Know You” form about Jessica. I thought it might be fun to share that information here.

Jessica

Is really good at knowing colors

Loves to talk about birthdays and her cousins

Is most frustrated when she can’t do something she wants to do (for example: opening a container or reaching something up high)

Is a little shy when around new people

Works hardest when we couldn’t come up with an answer for this one

Is very proud of her baby sister, baby Janette. She is very independent and is quite proud when she is able to do things herself.

Favorites

Food: raspberries, strawberries, grapes, smoothies, crackers, cheese

Book: Biscuit/Little Critter/Sesame Street/Christmas etc. (It goes in phases. She’s all about one theme for a while and wants to read that theme over and over before moving on to another one.)

Color: When asked what her favorite color is, she usually says orange. Although, she is a big fan of pink, especially when it comes to ice cream.

Hobby: legos, “reading”

Things to collect: bags/purses, books

On a side note, that chart with stickers you see behind Jessica in the first picture is her new reward/punishment chart. She gets to pick an animal sticker to put on it when she does something good (like cooperates when teeth-brushing, being helpful, staying in her room quietly during naptime). She gets threatened to take off a “piggie” (she likes the pig stickers and picked them first) when she is misbehaving or being uncooperative and then if she doesn’t cooperate we take off a sticker and toss it in the trash with her watching. She absolutely hates that and gets super upset, so for the most part the threat usually gets her to cooperate. She has lost at least two piggies and two monkeys. My goal is to offer her something fun when she fills up the chart completely with stickers, but we haven’t got that far yet.

Jessica looks really cute in her dress. I’m glad she wants to wear it. I like her back pack, too. I see she still likes monkeys. Enjoyed reading about what sshe can do and what she likes. I think the chart and stickers are a good idea.

In the first picture, she looks like she has a ton of bricks in her backpack. I’m glad she likes school and the stickers are working for discipline.

Yeah, I don’t know why she leaned back like that. All she carries in her backpack are diapers, wipes and an extra set of clothes.
