Fabulous Fall

Posted on September 14, 2012 by Jennifer

Howdy y’all! Is it starting to turn fall in your neck of the woods? Here in Texas, we have hot and not hot as seasons. Yet, somehow fall is my favorite season. I love the idea of cooler weather (we did have a cool front come through this last week that dropped our highs down to the upper 80ºFs/low 90ºFs), falling leaves and pumpkin pie. Today’s new release is perfect for me and all the other fall lovers out there. You can use it to scrap photos from the pumpkin patch, apple picking, and playing in the leaves. You can also use it for those just because photos. Lauren used it to scrap a shopping trip. Queen Wild Scraps has it on sale today through Monday for 40% off. This is even better than Lahni’s normal new release sale price of 30%, because she is celebrating her Design Anniversary, so you can pick up today’s awesome new release or any of her other great kits or template packs.

Here’s a close-up of the papers.

Queen Wild also made some awesome coordinating word art. You can pick them up separately or get the kit, cardstock and the word art in a bundle at a savings.

I made a layout with photos from Jessica’s first trip to the pumpkin patch back in 2010. I intend to make at least two more layouts to scrap the trip to the pumpkin patch, but I didn’t have to time to finish before release day.

A Few Layouts

Posted on September 9, 2012 by Jennifer

I have a backlog of layouts I’ve completed that I haven’t shared yet. I thought I would share a few today.

First up is one I made during a speed scrap. I find it hard to believe Janette was ever that small.

Digikit: Amy’s Designs – Fresh New Beginning
long stitching from The Scrapping Sisters – March of the Animals
short stitching from Mommy Made This – Springing Into Luck Refreshed
staple from Amy’s Designs – American Spirit
Font: Talking to the Moon

Next up is one with photos of Jessica this past May.

Digikit: Amy’s Designs – Blast Off; Karen Diamond Designs – Adventures in Space; Queen Wild Scraps – The Final Frontier; Ladybug Scraps – Outta This World Element Pack
Font: Candy Square BTN Striped; Pacifico

These next two contain photos of Jessica in July 2011. Journaling reads: “I took Jessica to JC Penneys to get her portrait taken. It didn’t take long for her to warm up to the camera. July 2, 2011”

Digikit: Amy’s Designs – American Spirit
Font: Milk & Cereal (title Little); Catherine’s College Days (journaling)

Template: Queen Wild Scraps – All About the Photos

This last one was also made during a speed scrap. The circular grid was provided as part of the speed scrap. Journaling reads: “Jessica loves the Wild Animal Baby magazine she receives in the mail each month. She was very excited about the May 2012 issue. In addition to having Zoey the Zebra on the cover, there was a picture with instructions of a Zebra Pudding Snack in the activity idea section. Each new issue becomes a current favorite thing to read at story time and each time we read this issue, she would point to the Zebra Pudding Snack and say she wanted to eat that. I made her one with leftover ingredients from the trifle I made for the pool party at Uncle Jason & Aunt Julia’s house the weekend of Janette’s baptism. She shared it with her Daddy and absolutely loved it.”

Digikit: Wendy Tunison Designs – She Wore Blue Jeans; Amy’s Designs – Happy Go Lucky (glitter splatter, green stitching and felt strip); Amy’s Designs – Evening Elegance (paint splatter recolored); Trixie Scraps Designs – Master Chef (black stiching, black flower)
Fonts: Trash (title), BettysHand (journal, date)

Thanks for stopping by.

Blowing Bubbles

Posted on September 3, 2012 by Jennifer

Saturday was release day for the September bits & pieces. I’m running a little behind showcasing these pieces from Karen Diamond Designs. It is perfect for anyone who loves bubbles.

I always find the animated previews go way to quickly, so here’s the linked preview of the elements.

And the linked preview of the papers.

Karen also has a coordinating alpha and wordart.

You can grab each piece for only a $1 for the first week in September. Don’t forget the sale ends September 7th!

My layout only uses the elements and papers and I found some awesome bubble photos. This is back when Jessica was about the same age Janette is now. Looking at these pictures, I can barely remember Jessica being that chubby, she is such a skinny kid now.

Karen also has two other recent releases.  They are Template Builders, Vol 1 and Vol 2.

Template Builders v1 Preview

Template Builders v2

They are on sale for only $2.00 through the 13th of September!! Grab them while you can!

Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Posted on September 1, 2012 by Jennifer

Today is my Mom’s birthday. Happy Birthday Mom!

Back in June, I suggested to my sister and brother (well, more my sister-in-law) that we get all the kiddos together and have portraits taken as a gift for Mom’s birthday. They were receptive to the idea, so I found fabric and patterns for the girls dresses and Julia and I made dresses for the girls while my sister found coordinating blue polo shirts for the boys. We went barefoot for a fun summer feel. We used the Jackie O Dress for Jessica and Aspen, but instead of buttons down the back, we put a zipper in the bodice and didn’t cut the back skirt piece. We also didn’t do the lining. For Janette, I used the Abbey Dress, but I didn’t use piping and added ribbon like in the Jackie O Dress. I discovered the zipper foot and now I think zippers are fantastic.

Sarah came into town an extra day early for Aspen’s 3rd birthday party and Sarah, Julia and I met up Friday morning at the mall at the JC Penney Portrait Studio. Do portrait studios have a set number of photos they’re allowed to take per session? The photographer seemed to be waiting for the perfect shot at times. Five kids under five? The perfect shot is never going to happen. We did individual photos of each kid before getting all five together. She only took two photos of each individual kid. One of the two of Janette was blurry, like she overzoomed. Overall, I was not the most impressed with the photographer. She did take twelve photos of all the cousins together. Then three of Cameron and Trevor together. Two more of Aspen by herself. And none of Jessica and Janette together, because Jessica didn’t want to cooperate. For a grand total of 28 pictures in the 1 hour we were there. That doesn’t seem like a lot to me. I mean, she was with Cameron and Trevor for like 10 minutes and she only took 3 photos? Oh well.

We decided to choose the best group cousin photo (the photo in the first layout) for an 11×14 framed photo and a 6×12 easel framed photo that my Mom can put in her office with the rest of the grandkid photos. Then I took all the photos (we paid for the photo CD) and made the following layouts, which we put in an album for her. I spoke with her earlier today and she was really pleased with the present. That made me happy.

Journaling reads: “August 3, 2012 When everyone was in town for Aspen’s birthday party, we took all the cousins for some family portraits. It was difficult to get five children four years old and younger to look at the camera and smile at the same time. The portraits still turned out super cute.”

Journaling reads: “Jessica is 2.5 years old. Janette is 9 months old. Jessica is independent. Janette is laid-back. Jessica is a picky eater. Janette eats everything. Jessica is a good sleeper. Janette, not so much. Whatever their differences, they’ll always be sisters.”
