My Life November

Posted on November 10, 2017 by Jennifer

As the year winds down into a cozy end, gratitude and happiness are on everyone’s mind – along with turkey, holiday plans, and anticipating snow. My Life… November, the latest kit in Scraps N Pieces’ monthly series, reflects upon the way November makes us feel and makes it easier to get pages scrapped while snuggling up. The warm, subdued color palette feels like a warm fire or gathering around the Thanksgiving table and the elements pair perfectly. Highlights include turkey, gourds, pumpkins, pies, Pilgrims, fall leaves, and vintage ephemera. As always, there is a plethora of perfectly themed patterned papers, and a warm wooden alpha. If you’re short of time, this amazing kit also comes with pre-made clustered frames, a quickpage, and a calendar – all things to be thankful for! Use My Life… November to scrap all your gratitude this month and free time to make more memories.

Bundle and kit on sale this week at all of Scraps N Pieces’ stores

On the Bayou

Posted on November 5, 2017 by Jennifer

Life can be slow and sweet or fast and fun, depending on where in New Orleans you go. Scraps N Pieces’ latest kit, On the Bayou, celebrates the best parts of this beautiful southern city: a rich history, Cajun food, jazz music, and the bayou itself. The unusual color palate calls to mind a steaming bowl of gumbo: subdued pinks and greens, a splash of blue, and a pop of bright red. The patterns and elements are a fun blend of different scrapping traditions, running the gamut from playful doodled wildlife to timeless ephemera and everything in between. Featured motifs include the fleur de lis, musical notes, steamboats, delicious food, and life on the bayou. Thematic word strips and a corrugated alpha provide the perfect accompaniment. So whether your heart is in the French Quarter or out in the swamp, On the Bayou has something to satisfy everyone.

Makes sure you grab On The Bayou during the Gingerscraps Buffet sale.  Previews are linked for purchse.

I knew I would have to scrap some cajun inspired pictures. I decided on the Natchez steamboat cruise we took back in 2005 with my family when we visited New Orleans. I made a two page layout and will probably need to make one more to cover the afternoon excursion.

Then I decided that the template pack plus the kit would be great for a heritage layout and scrapped this neat photo of my great-great-grandparents. My friend Jan and fellow genealogist hooked me up with this picture and I cleaned it up a bit.

Where the Wild Things Are

Posted on November 4, 2017 by Jennifer

Some days, life gets a little hairy; other times, we just need to walk on the wild side. Whether you just got back from the safari park or life at home is a bit like living in the zoo, you can make the perfect pages fast with Scraps N Pieces’ latest kit, Where the Wild Things Are. This fun, animal-inspired kit has everything you need to make a wild page. There are plenty of trees and greenery, a man on safari, thematic word art, tickets, and a fun alpha. There’s also an adorable animal pack containing some zoo favorites, ranging from the traditional lions, tigers, and giraffes to more unexpected critters like porcupines, crocodiles, and polar bears. Whether you love animal prints or prefer more traditional patterned papers, this kit has you covered there too. So check out Where the Wild Things Are… and embark on your own personal scrapping safari.

You can pick it up at Scraps-n-Pieces and Gingerscraps.

I scrapped 4 pages to start documenting our trip to the Albuquerque Zoo this past summer.

I also used this kit to make some things for Jessica and Janette’s Zoo Birthday Party.

We had an adoption center at the party. I bought these stuffed animal sets that were sold by the dozen with two each of six different kinds of zoo animals. When the guests first arrived, they were directed to the adoption center.

I made the Adoption Center sign and the adoption certificates. The adoption certificates were made so two printed on one letter size piece of paper.

After the kiddos adopted an animal, they were sent into the backyard where I had two tables set up. One was set-up with beads, alpha beads, and elastic cording, so they could create collars for their animals. The second table was set up with gable boxes (purchased here) that James cut out a hole from the front and punched holes in so they could create habitats for their animals. I also had sequins, glue, pipe cleaners, and glitter glue so they could decorate their habitats.

I also created a scavenger hunt sheet. I bought a dozen tiny zoo animals from Party City and then I spent a fair amount of time researching those animals’ footprints to create the scavenger sheet. I printed these out on printer paper for the kids. I also printed out the key sheet on cardstock and cut out the squares. Then my brother and sister-in-law hid the animals and their key square around the yard. This would also be a great activity to take to an actual zoo.

I also made food tents with four printing on one piece of cardstock. We had Deer Poop (chocolate covered raisins), Tiger Tails (cheetos), Cheetah Spots (caramel and cheddar popcorn), Giraffe Juice (lemonade), Jungle Juice (pineapple/lime punch, this recipe doubled), Monkey Food (assorted fruit), Curly Hotdog Snakes, Veggie Owl, Animal Crackers, Lion Food (chicken bites & chicken fries from Schwann’s), and Zebra Kisses (Hershey Hugs melted on square pretzels). We also had a sugar cookie cake for Jessica (I used this recipe) and Panda cupcakes for Janette (from this recipe).

I’ve zipped up all the printables and you can download  for personal use.

A to Z

Posted on October 27, 2017 by Jennifer

Word Art World has a great new word art set available at Gingerscraps. A to Z includes a word for every letter of the alphabet.

There are so many fun words to choose from. I did choose two to share with you today. The first one uses Memories and some pictures from having lunch on the patio. I think this might have been shortly after we got the patio dining set.

This second one uses Upside Down and showcases a fun picture of Jessica hanging upside down at a playground we visited during our visit to southwestern Colorado this summer.

Now this layout doesn’t use any word art, or any text for that matter, but it is going to be next to one I just shared in the scrapbook album, so I thought I’d go ahead and share today too. I made it during a recent speed scrap.
