Happy Birthday Mom!

Posted on September 1, 2012 by Jennifer

Today is my Mom’s birthday. Happy Birthday Mom!

Back in June, I suggested to my sister and brother (well, more my sister-in-law) that we get all the kiddos together and have portraits taken as a gift for Mom’s birthday. They were receptive to the idea, so I found fabric and patterns for the girls dresses and Julia and I made dresses for the girls while my sister found coordinating blue polo shirts for the boys. We went barefoot for a fun summer feel. We used the Jackie O Dress for Jessica and Aspen, but instead of buttons down the back, we put a zipper in the bodice and didn’t cut the back skirt piece. We also didn’t do the lining. For Janette, I used the Abbey Dress, but I didn’t use piping and added ribbon like in the Jackie O Dress. I discovered the zipper foot and now I think zippers are fantastic.

Sarah came into town an extra day early for Aspen’s 3rd birthday party and Sarah, Julia and I met up Friday morning at the mall at the JC Penney Portrait Studio. Do portrait studios have a set number of photos they’re allowed to take per session? The photographer seemed to be waiting for the perfect shot at times. Five kids under five? The perfect shot is never going to happen. We did individual photos of each kid before getting all five together. She only took two photos of each individual kid. One of the two of Janette was blurry, like she overzoomed. Overall, I was not the most impressed with the photographer. She did take twelve photos of all the cousins together. Then three of Cameron and Trevor together. Two more of Aspen by herself. And none of Jessica and Janette together, because Jessica didn’t want to cooperate. For a grand total of 28 pictures in the 1 hour we were there. That doesn’t seem like a lot to me. I mean, she was with Cameron and Trevor for like 10 minutes and she only took 3 photos? Oh well.

We decided to choose the best group cousin photo (the photo in the first layout) for an 11×14 framed photo and a 6×12 easel framed photo that my Mom can put in her office with the rest of the grandkid photos. Then I took all the photos (we paid for the photo CD) and made the following layouts, which we put in an album for her. I spoke with her earlier today and she was really pleased with the present. That made me happy.

Journaling reads: “August 3, 2012 When everyone was in town for Aspen’s birthday party, we took all the cousins for some family portraits. It was difficult to get five children four years old and younger to look at the camera and smile at the same time. The portraits still turned out super cute.”

Journaling reads: “Jessica is 2.5 years old. Janette is 9 months old. Jessica is independent. Janette is laid-back. Jessica is a picky eater. Janette eats everything. Jessica is a good sleeper. Janette, not so much. Whatever their differences, they’ll always be sisters.”

Family Ties

Posted on August 1, 2012 by Jennifer

It’s August and that means it’s time for another round of Bits N Pieces! This month the theme was relationships and Queen Wild Scraps has made three pieces for you called Family Ties. First off is this cardstock pack that should match all of the kits:

Next up, she has this patterned paper pack – 15 papers in total:

And this element pack containing 35 unique elements:

Remember each of these packs are just ONE dollar but only for the first week of August so make sure you grab them quick!

I’ve made two layouts using all three of Lahni’s pieces. These photos are from our recent 2012 Dzubinski Family Trip.

Journaling reads: “Friday, July 20, 2012 We all gathered in Cabin 17, the two-bedroom cabin where Mom, Dad, Jennifer, James, Jessica and Janette were staying, for breakfast. Breakfast consisted of the homemade cinnamon rolls provided by the resort, cereal, oranges and juice. Afterward, everyone headed out to the porch to feed the peacocks. The peacocks were definitely used to people and would come right up to your outstretched hand. All the kiddos found it great fun.”

Shiver Me Timbers

Posted on July 10, 2012 by Jennifer

I’m so excited to show you all this new kit! Queen Wild had sooo much fun creating it and she’s so thrilled that it’s finally time to release it! Shiver Me Timbers – inspired by some photos she took years ago of a pirate treasure her kids, nieces and nephews “discovered” when they were all staying on Treasure Island in Florida for a family reunion. All of the pieces (with the exception of the bundle) will be 30% off from July 10-16th. Without further ado – here it is:

And a closer look at the papers:

Lahni also created an add-on paper pack:

And we all know how fantastic Meagan’s Creations’ word art packs are so I asked her to create one with my kit:

And if you really love the collection you can grab the bundle for just $7.00 – a savings of $4.00!

I’ve made two layouts with Shiver Me Timbers. I felt that the pirate cruise we went on a couple of years ago was a perfect match for this kit, but I already did an album of the whole trip. So I decided I would do a page that my sister could put in my nephew’s album. I decided to do the jouranling from Cameron’s point of view. Journaling reads: “All of the pirates on the Black Dragon cruise loved me. Robotodo even gave me a sword and taught me to duel. I thought that sword was so cool and wouldn’t put it down.”

Then I decided I wanted to show how versatile this kit could be and made a layout totally unrelated to pirates. Journaling reads: “Ever since we bought Jessica the six-pack of Little Critter books at Costco, she has been carrying them around with her everywhere. Today, she decided she had to have them with her for a walk to the park. I put hats and sunglasses on both girls for our early evening walk. Janette was more interesting in tasting her sunglasses than wearing them.”

And Meagan made you a freebie! You can pick it up on Queen Wild’s blog.

Yo ho a pirate’s life for me!

Let’s Get Physical

Posted on June 1, 2012 by Jennifer

June’s theme for Bits N Pieces was Health/Wellness. Lahni choose to do a workout kit. It’s called Let’s Get Physical! Isn’t it pretty? I love these bright colors and you know me and purple. Remember that for the first week of June only, all Bits N Pieces kits are only $1!! It’s a steal – so run over to the store quick and buy a bunch!

I decided to continue scrapping my spring break trip to my sister’s house and didn’t end up using any of the theme elements. So you can see how versatile this mini can be.

Time to Ride

Posted on June 1, 2012 by Jennifer

Its Bits N Pieces time. The mini from Amy’s Designs is called Time to Ride. Don’t forget you can pick it up for only $1 for 1 week only.

My layout using this fun kit is from my spring break trip to Keller.

Journaling reads: “After naptime, we headed out to the driveway to burn off some energy. Everything with wheels came out of the garage: scooter, tricycle, push car, baby car, even the unhooked bicycle buggy. All the kids pushed Janette around the driveway and they each got to go for a ride in the bicycle buggy. 3/11/12”

Now it’s time to get physical.
