Jessica’s First Day of School

Posted on August 31, 2011 by Jennifer

Yesterday was Jessica’s first day of school. I was excited for her and scared at the same time. She hates the church nursery at SHPC and is not the biggest fan of Mommy leaving and even sometimes not the biggest fan of Daddy leaving in the morning to go to work. But apparently, I didn’t need to be worried.

I, of course, want to scrapbook this momentous event. I really liked this sketch from Sassy Lil’ Sketches and thought it would work really well with the best picture I was able to get of Jessica on her first day of school. You might notice she’s pointing at the Elmo on her shirt. That was the only way I could get her to look at me, by asking what was on her shirt.

Journaling reads: This year, Jessica started attending the Mother’s Day Out Program at Abiding Love Lutheran Church on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM to 1 PM. Her teachers, Ms. Karen and Ms. Lacy, said her first day went great. She only cried for about 5 minutes after Daddy dropped her off. Another little girl came up and gave her a hug and said it was okay. After that, she enjoyed playing with the other kids in her class.

First Day Survival Kits

Posted on August 30, 2011 by Jennifer

On Saturday, I shared the cards I made for Jessica’s two teachers. Today, I am sharing the little survival kits that included the cards. I also included a travel-size hand sanitizer, a travel pack of Kleenexes, a little tin of Altoids (not the full-size tin), some lip balm, and some Hershey’s chocolate nuggets. If I had all my crafty stuff completely unpacked, I might have made something more elaborate than a bag topper for these survival kits. But, hey now that I’m getting eight hours of week of me time while Jessica is at Mother’s Day Out, maybe I’ll get finished unpacking stuff.

First Day Survival Kits

I used the pencil digi-stamp I received for participating in last week’s Hambo Hoedown. That is the great thing about digi-stamps, you can use them in multiple sizes. I’m entering these kits in this week’s Hambo Hoedown Challenge #30, which is to make a school-themed creation using primary colors of red, yellow and blue. Unfortunately, I forgot about the primary colors part of the challenge when coloring it up last night, but the survival kit for Ms. Lacy is close enough to primary, I think it will count. I’m also entering the kits in the following challenges: Stamp Something to make a back to school something; Just Us Girls Challenge #99 to make a 3-D back to school project; and Paper Pretties Monday Challenge #6 to make a back to school project.

Blowing Bubbles in the Pool

Posted on August 29, 2011 by Jennifer

Two weeks ago when James’ parents along with our nephew Dawson visited for the weekend, we went to our neighborhood pool. I brought my camera and filmed this little video of her blowing bubbles and kicking her feet in the kiddie pool. I meant to share the video sooner, but forgot.

Teacher Cards

Posted on August 27, 2011 by Jennifer

Jessica starts Mother’s Day Out at Abiding Love Lutheran Church on Tuesday, so I wanted to make each of the two teachers a card for the first day of class. I started these cards at Lori’s on Sunday, but finished them up Thursday after going to the MDO’s Open House and meeting Jessica’s teachers. I had wanted to add glossy accents to the apples, but alas I haven’t unearthed it from my boxes of craft supplies that I’ve already unpacked from moving.

I used Jen del Muro’s August Sketch for You to Try, which was so fun.

I’m also entering these cards in the Your Next Stamp Challenge #49, which was to use fruit as inspiration.

Fun at Loco-Motion

Posted on August 24, 2011 by Jennifer

Sunday afternoon after stamping with Lori, I met James and Jessica at Loco-Motion, a bounce house place that has been having deals at a lot of different deal sites recently. I decided the pictures I took would work for a challenge I’ve been wanting to participate in, the August Scrapheap Challenge #1 at Scrapbookbytes.com. The challenge is to use 3 frames, 4 pictures, a tag (at least 1), the color yellow and 2 papers (one plain and one striped).

I ended up doing two coordinating layouts since I had way more than 4 pictures I wanted to scrap.
