A Few Cards for the Hope You Can Cling To Challenges

Posted on October 10, 2010 by Jennifer

I’m having a lot of fun with the Hope You Can Cling To Challenges over at Splitcoast Stampers. They had three challenges on World Card-making Day (Oct. 2nd) and a single challenge every day since then and it continues through Oct. 31st. There’s a bunch of great prizes. Plus, all the cards go to MD Anderson for the encouragement of cancer patients. I have two cards to share today.

This first card is for the Unsentimental Challenge, HYCCT03. I used the Mojo Monday Sketch #159. I was especially inspired by Wendy Bond’s take on the sketch, but unfortunately my image was a little too large to follow her take completely. I also used Mo’s Digital Pencil Challenge #52 to make a rainbow card. The design team had each been given a single color of the rainbow to use, so I decided to choose shades of pink (for breast cancer awareness) for my rainbow card. I am extremely pleased with how this card turned out.

HYCCT03 Card

Stamps: Mo’s Digital Pencil Between
Cardstock: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Pretty in Pink, Rose Red
Designer Paper: Stampin’ Up Raspberry Tart
Ink: Dell printer
Embellishments: Stampin’ Up  Rose 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon, Pretty in Pink brad; Maya Roads Velvet Fire blossom
Markers: Stampin’ Up Blush Blossom, Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose, Rose Red, Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa, Ballet Blue
Tools: Stampin’ Up Scallop border punch

The second card I made today for the Four by Four Challenge, HYCCT04 to make a card with four layers and four different embellishments. I used The Sweet Stop Sketch #77. The Sweet Stop sketches are all about layers, so I knew I could count on it for my four layers. I almost  didn’t have four different embellishments, but I added the heart twinkle sticker to the sentiment, so with that, the brads, the flowers, and the buttons I have four different embellishments. I’m not as happy with this second card as the first, but I’m not used to using that many designer papers on one card.

HYCCT04 Card

Stamps: Papertrey Ink Everyday Button Bits
Cardstock: Stampin’ Up Whisper White
Designer Paper: Stampin’ Up Petals & Paisleys
Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Brown, Certainly Celery, Pretty in Pink, Tempting Turquoise (colors used on DP edges)
Embellishments: Papertrey Ink buttons; A Muse heart twinkle sticker; Maya Road Velvet Air blossom, Stampin’ Up Pretty in Pink brads

I would love to know what you think. Thanks for stopping by to visit.

Happy Birthday Kristy!

Posted on October 9, 2010 by Jennifer

My friend Kristy’s birthday was yesterday and we are getting together for dinner tonight to celebrate. Her favorite color is red and she happens to like penguins and anything Hawaiian. I combined that with Jen’s Sketch For You to Try and came up with this card. On the inside I used the sentiment: Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Let’s swim like a fish and drink like one too! I hope she likes it.

A Birthday Card for Kristy

Stamps: Starving Artistamps Doodlestamps Tropics and Tropics Sentiments 1 (inside); Stampin’ Up Do the Hula (flower)

Designer Paper: Stampin’ Up Pink Flamingo
Ink: Stazon Jet Black; Stampin’ Up Real Red (flower)
Embellishments: red Hawaiian ribbon

Jessica’s 1 Year Portraits

Posted on October 8, 2010 by Jennifer

On Monday, September 27th, we took Jessica to have her portrait taken at the JC Penney Studio. I had planned to include copies in her birthday invitations, but alas I should have done portraits earlier, because I didn’t get them until this past Wednesday. For the most part, she did really well. Near the end, she got a little fussy and decided that was enough. I was pretty happy with JC Penney. I ended up spending more than I wanted to, but if I had really stuck to my guns, it could have been pretty inexpensive.  I had brought the red balloons and they were a perfect prop. Thanks Jillan for the suggestion. Let me know which pictures you like best (I’ve used the JC Penney short label so it will be easy for you to say).

We had a few family shots as well. I really like me in P14, but we ordered a few of P20 since we liked it better overall. Jessica had her thumb in her mouth for all the family shots. She was getting kind of tired.

A Pink Texas Tuesday

Posted on October 5, 2010 by Jennifer

Welcome to the first Texas Tuesday of October (Texas themed cards on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month). October is breast cancer awareness month. October 2nd was World Cardmaking Day. Put those together and you get some fun challenges for a good cause over on Splitcoast Stampers. My two Texas Tuesday cards were made for the Hope You Can Cling To: Bring in the Brown challenge. The cards are being sent to the UT MD Anderson to benefit patients being treated for breast cancer and their families. My Nanny got breast cancer  when I was kid and had a mastectomy followed by a brief remission before succumbing to the cancer. It is so important to do mammograms and catch the cancer early enough so that is easily beatable. Some one else I know found it so early that treatment wasn’t too extreme and she is now cancer free.

I decided to do Texas themed brown and pink cards and I decided to do two, because I had some difficulty coming up with the layout. Part of that difficulty stemed from the large size of the sentiment. On the second card, I couldn’t make the sentiment work, so I stuck it on the inside. Which do you like better?

Have a Boot-Scootin' Day

Bouncy Bouncy Bouncy

Posted on October 3, 2010 by Jennifer

The last time our play group met at our house, Christian totally loved the exersaucer. He is a big fan of bouncing. Jessica thought it was the neatest thing and now she is bouncing too. Watch her in action in this 19 second clip.

Monday’s playdate was at Stacie’s house. Jessica loved the little shopping cart that William and Alex have. It was actually the first time she started walking while pushing a moving object. Since then, she now loves to walk behind her push toy that we have. In fact, Thursday we spent half an hour walking up and down the hallway. I think it’s a sign that she will be walking soon. Here’s a longer video clip of her walking behind the toy.
